Election Statement as submitted & certified by the candidate
I am honoured to offer myself for election to the position of President-Elect of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.
Having served on the IESL Council, including two sessions as Vice President and six sessions as Chairman of a Sectional Committee, I have worked closely with successive Presidents, President-Elects, Vice Presidents, Standing Committees and the Secretariat. This experience has given me a broad understanding of the Institution’s work, challenges and priorities.
IESL is presently at a critical juncture. The professional standing of Engineers, engineering education, statutory recognition, government recruitment and career progression, and the evolving regulatory framework require sustained engagement. My involvement with ECSL since January 2025, together with my participation in professional and regulatory matters, has provided me with first-hand experience of these challenges.
I believe the President-Elect should provide continuity and momentum to the Institution’s work. Important initiatives cannot afford to lose momentum with each change of leadership. Building on the work of the present Council, we must strengthen professional recognition, advance engineering education, improve member services, embrace digital transformation, and ensure that engineering remains central to public safety and national development.
I respectfully seek your support to continue serving IESL and, with commitment and experience, take our Institution and the engineering profession to the next level.
